The second I saw Michael Fassbender’s performance in Steve McQueen’s The Hunger, in which he starred as an IRA fighter on hunger strike, I knew the Irish actor would be a star.
And he’s wasted no time. He was back at Cannes and Toronto this year as a sexy bad-boy seducer in Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank (due in January from IFC). Quentin Tarantino cast him as a plummy Brit film critic in Inglourious Basterds, Neil Marshall put the 300 star into the Roman Empire in the actioner Centurion, he plays a nasty tattooed villain opposite Josh Brolin in Warner Bros.’ comic-book western Jonah Hex, and next up this March, Sin Nombre‘s Cary Fukunaga will direct him as Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre. Fassbender is also trying to get some worthy indie projects made too. I interviewed him last week with my flip cam.
